Happy Valentines Day!
The kids and I decorated my husband's office for Valentine's Day. We made him a "bouquet" of fruit flowers. We glued a styrofoam ball into a bowl and dipped fruit in chocolate, stuck it on various sizes of skewers and then stuck them into the styrofoam. I think it turned out nice. I forgot to take pics before we left, so they are from his phone, which isn't the greatest.

Reusable shopping bag/wallet tutorial plus enter to win!
It has been one of my goals to make some kind of sewing tutorial. I finally came up with something worthy...Please excuse my pics, I had to use my cell phone.
This tutorial is for a reusable shopping bag that folds into a wallet.
Supplies needed:
1 yard outer fabric
1 yard inner fabric
A snap or velcro...some kind of closure for the wallet
A plastic shopping bag
I used dark brown thread so it would be easier to see the stitching. The fabric I found at my local Joann's store.
First, fold your outer fabric in half, then take a plastic shopping bag, flatten it as much as you can and pin it to your outer fabric. You can either add 4 inches to the sides or cut the fused ends on the bag and lay it out flat. Make sure to add a 1/4-1/2 inch seam allowance when you cut!
After mine was cut, I folded it in half to make sure both sides were the same. Then, I pinned the outer fabric to my folded inner fabric and cut. After this, you should have 2 matching pieces of your outer fabric and 2 pieces of inner fabric.
Next, cut 2 13x8 pieces. I cut one of each different fabric. You can round the corners on one of the short sides if you'd like, or just leave them squared.
With ride sides together, sew all the way around, except for a 2 inch gap on one side...it doesn't really matter which side except if you do rounded corners. I wouldn't suggest doing it on a rounded corner. Turn inside out, press and top stitch.
I used a ruler and a pencil to make 2 lines parallel to the short sides of the wallet pieces, 4 inches from each side. Then, center the piece, as best you can on one of your outer pieces, pin and sew across both pencil lines.
I put a snap in mine, but sew in velcro would work fine too.
With right sides together, sew the bottom of your outer fabrics together. Do the same to your inner fabric.
Lay your pieces together matching the handles right sides together, with an inner fabric and an outer fabric together and pin. Do the same to the other side.
Sew around the top of the handles and all the way across the other side and the top of the other handle. Do the same to the other side, leaving a 3 inch opening at the top of the bag!
Trim the corners of the handles and make small notches in the rounded part of the bag.
Now take your bag and match up the handles, inner fabric to inner, outer fabric to outer...pin and sew the sides of the bag.
Now, we're going to turn it inside out and press the enter bag. Remember the hole we left? We're going to fix that now. Turn the ends in, pin and top stitch along the rounded part of the bag on both sides
Fold the handles and sides in, press and pin. In the end, you should have handles with 4 equal layers. Top stitch the top of the handles and just the part you folded at the bottom of the bag.
Now you should have something that looks like this
Now, we'll go through how to fold it.

Fold the bottom and the handles in, then fold in half.

DIY Home Cleaners
I've been looking for ways to save money and also looking for cleaners that are non-toxic because of my son's new found love of getting into things he shouldn't. I found these recipes on jollymom.com, a blog I follow. I also wanted to add one of my own that I found that is great at getting out stains.
Stain Remover:
1/4 scoop Oxyclean(I use the free & clear one) to a large spray bottle
Fill almost to the top with hot water, make sure the oxyclean dissolves
Then add 2 tbls castille soap
This got sharpie out of my couch :)
Glass Cleaner
1 cup distilled white vinegar
2 cups water
1/2 tsp dish soap
10-15 drops essential oil
Spray Bottle
All Purpose Cleaner
1/2 tsp washing soda
1/2 tsp liquid Castille soap
2 cups hot water
10-15 drops essential oil
Spray Bottle
Disinfectant
Hydrogen Peroxide
10-15 drops essential oil
Spray Bottle
Hardwood Floor Cleaner
4-5 Tbsp Murphy's Oil Soap
2 Cups Water
Spray Bottle
Furniture Polish
2 cups oil (vegetable or olive)
1 squeezed lemon
15 drops of lemon essential oil
Air Deodorizer
1 tsp baking soda
1tsp vinegar
2 cups water
10 drops essential oil

Ooga Monster
I've been trying to think of something I could make my son for Christmas as a toy. This little guy was inspired by some fabric that I LOVE!! It is stuffed with stuffing that is supposed to keep baby warm. Here is his ooga booga monster and the pj's to match.

WAHM Lovefest
I wanted to write a blog about the WAHM(work-at-home-moms) that I have worked with lately. I have been doing a LOT of trading. I love it! I have been able to get things that I wouldn't have been able to afford otherwise. I have done a lot of Christmas shopping that way.
Jenny's Simply Clean: This WAHM and her husband make environmentally friendly laundry detergent. She is SO nice and great to work with! I think they have 50 different scents you can use. They even have a scent sampler so you don't have to decide on just one. I love it. My kids have eczema and since I switched to this, it's totally gone.
These come from a new WAHM on diaperswappers under c2afwife. I don't know how she does it, but she flattens glass bottles. They can be used as a spoon rest, cheese board, or anything else you can think of. I traded for 2 of them. I'm going to use them as Christmas gifts with some brie cheese and crackers.
These come from Chunkibunz diapers on diaperswappers. This WAHM has been making diapers for a LONG time. I love these, they are so soft and they are one size, so no need to have to keep buying diapers.
She also made a cloth book of the classic Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer cartoon. That is what started the trade. I HAD to have it!!
Barebottoms Boutique This WAHM is a licensed Ditto Daddy trainer seamstress. These look professionally made. I love them! Her packaging is so impressive. She even sent me a pic of her son in the fleece pants I made so that I can use him as a happy customer :)
Joyful Rose I traded with this WAHM for my website design. She does hyenacart design, which is the website that hosts my store. She also does blinkies, and static banners. She did the one that is on this blog. Everything is exactly what I pictured in my head. It looks SO much better!!
I love getting things like this so that I can see the nice personal touches they put in. With something commercial, you just don't get that. Now that I have discovered this whole world of homemade stuff, I don't want to go back. It's really sad that some things can't be made for how cheap you can buy them at the store.
I also have a chalkroll coming for my daughter, which is a chalkboard and chalk holder with a cotton print on the back that rolls up and is tied with ribbon so she can take it with her whereever she wants. I'm really excited about it. I picked a sushi print :) I'll have to take a pic when I get it.

New Sets and a nursing cover
My niece had a baby last week and asked if I could make a nursing cover for her. After researching online, I made this. It has a strap that goes around your neck and snaps onto the cover. That way the baby can't yank it off. It turned out really cute.
I have had a couple of requests for different animals that are on the fleece I have available so I have been testing my creativity skills :) Here are the results.
